RESUME:A Tale of Two Cities is a historical novel by Charles Dickens, set in London and Paris before and during the French Revolution. The book tells the story of two men, Charles Darnay and Sydney Carton, who look alike but are very different in character. Darnay is a French aristocrat who renounces his title and wealth to live in England and work as a tutor. Carton is a lawyer in London who is dissatisfied with his life and often turns to alcohol. The two men become involved with Lucie Manette, a young French woman living in London, and her father, a physician who was imprisoned in the Bastille for many years. As the French Revolution unfolds and violence erupts in Paris, Darnay is called back to France and is imprisoned by the revolutionaries. Carton, who has fallen in love with Lucie, decides to sacrifice himself for her and her family
